Bereavement Liaison Service was founded by Michaela Willis MBE after years of working with individuals/families who have been met by challenges within the bureaucratic systems surrounding a death . The mission is to offer knowledge and expertise and to get answers for to those who are experiencing loss. Michaela has over 30 years experience in the sector, and is well renowned for her work. Michaela has a team of experienced individuals from within the sector who will get on board supporting specific cases.

Our team are experts in investigations pertaining to dying, death, living loss and grief.

We believe in providing a person centered approach to every interaction, ensuring that our clients feel understood and informed throughout the process.

Michaela Willis MBE - Managing Director 

Michaela has a clinical background and has a Masters degree in Medical Ethics, as well as qualifications in Bereavement, Counselling, Suicide and Mental Heath as well as project management. However she firmly believes that it is the person that helps you on the journey, not just the exams that lie behind them. Michaela has a strong analytical track record, and a secure knowledge base. She has been a Director and Non Executive Director on a variety of Healthcare boards and Organisations, from Primary Care Trusts to National Bodies such as the Retained Organs Commission and the Regulatory body, The Human Tissue Authority. Michaela was also CEO of 2 highly aclaimed Bereavement Charities for many years. She has also been commissioned to investigate and write national and international reports on may hospitals/organisations on  bereavement related issues. Michaelas largest invistigation was for the Irish Goverment, looking at holdings of retained organs and bereavement services, which took over 3 years.

Michaela has a weath of experience in the death and bereavement sector, having written and lectured on an MSc in Death, Bereavement and Human Tissue Studies.

Michaela never wants to forget where here career began. For a good number of years, she worked voluntarily in the bereavement sector for personal reasons, spearheading the Bristol Children Heart Action group, and The National Committee Relating to Organ Retention. She has a unique ability to bridge the gap between the public and the professionals, always wanting to effect change for the better.

Michaela has delivered a significant amount of  training/seminars and lectured both nationally and internationally, with the the legacy of learning from the bereaved being paramount.

Michaela is an adept communicator, and remains calm in very challenging and emotive situations, and has honed listening skills, making her a proficient problem solver.
